DONATION | CREATIVE CO-WORKING STUDIO
As a grassroots youth-led organization — Flaunt-It is always searching for funding to support our non-profit and community-led programming. We are excited to announce that we are opening our first Creative Co-Working Studio within the Humber-River Black Creek community, by Fall 2022.
The Flaunt-It Movement & Collection ("Flaunt-It") intends to open a Creative Coworking Studio (the "Studio") for racialized youth artists and entrepreneurs in the Jane-Finch community. The Studio is an immediate solution to the mass gentrification and displacement of this underserved community amid the Finch West LRT's development. The development increases the need for innovative, collaborative strategies to economically empower Jane-Finch's low-income residents.
This program is for young, racialized emerging artists from primarily low-income/underserved communities. Interns will explore multidisciplinary arts, creative entrepreneurship, and professional development to find success in the arts and their passions. It prioritizes youth who have been unable to access creative opportunities due to socioeconomic barriers.
High-quality, anti-oppressive, and innovative opportunities are systemically underfunded and inaccessible in Toronto neighbourhoods vulnerable to crime and violence. With the Metcalf Foundation's Opportunities Fund, the Studio challenges longstanding inequities by providing barrier-free, affordable, and neighbourhood access to a collaborative, fully-equipped creative studio and incubator hub. The Studio encourages entrepreneurial exploration and provides the resources necessary for profitable and professional arts and entrepreneurial careers.
Our creative coworking model will develop a versatile space for producing creative projects, taking clients, hosting events, working in collaborative or independent settings and more. By temporarily leasing an office space, Flaunt-It is committed to learning, testing and operating our approach as a direct Community Engagement Strategic initiative in alignment with the Jane-Finch Community Hub and Centre for the Arts ("Hub" / CHCA) development and the City of Toronto's Jane-Finch Initiative Community Development Arts and Culture plans.
